It comes with three speeds, which may or may not be your preference. Most cordless drills only have two speeds, but having three makes it more versatile and convenient. The low speed is for precision driving, and the 3 speed is for heavy duty jobs such as concrete and thick lumber. Also, it’s big and heavy. It can be hard to position sometimes and you won’t be able to fit it into tight spots.

Another job that I had been putting off was changing my rear struts. Some mechanics quoted me upwards of $200 just for the labor, as I had already picked up new parts myself. If you are somewhat mechanically inclined and wouldn’t mind doing the bigger projects, you’ll save yourself a lot of money and time. I have used it for less than a week. It is a nice companion (smaller and lighter) to my BDF-451 driver. It drove 40 3″ ceramic screws in 2x lumber one morning and never bogged once. This does plenty of work around the house. The 18V motor has all the torque I need for most jobs. And, as an added convenience, the batteries are interchangeable with batteries in other B&D tool suite, like their lawn trimmer. I haven’t needed the extra batteries and charger yet, but I’m sure some job will come up where they’re more than handy. My only complaint, a minor one, is that the charger doesn’t let you know when the battery is full. I know the extra indicator would have added a little to the cost, but would have been a big improvement.

It doesn’t provide too much torgue for basic home drilling needs; somewhat disappointed with this drill’s power. The carrying bag is nice. – David G. Kerr
