The DeWalt DW960B 18V Right Angle Drill/Driver has trigger that can be gripped in several different ways in order to fit into those tight spaces. It weighs 2.8 pounds minus the battery and produces 320 unit watts of power that can be used for turning fasteners and large bits. The two speed ranges are 0-500/0-1500 rpm. Included is a 3/8 inch plastic chuck and a right angle transmission with a sealed ball bearing. The DW960B comes with 3 year limited warranty and the battery is sold separately. Read more...

The DeWalt DW960B 18V Right Angle Drill/Driver has trigger that can be gripped in several different ways in order to fit into those tight spaces. Included is a 3/8 inch plastic chuck and a right angle transmission with a sealed ball bearing. The DW960B comes with 3 year limited warranty and the battery is sold separately.

Pros

The DeWalt DW960B offers a lightweight, compact design that will allow you to drill in the tightest of spaces. You can drill from any number of angles, and with 320 unit watts you still have some power to work with. You can use it not only for drilling and driving, but also for sanding and polishing by attaching a disc pad to it. The battery performance is solid, the trigger is comfortable and it’s ergonomically sound.

Cons

The downsides are that it doesn’t have a 1/2 inch chuck and won’t be able to take on any heavy duty jobs.

Conclusion

This is the perfect drill when your other drills aren’t small enough for certain tasks. It’s not however an everyday drill, or one that can handle tougher tasks. It’s a great addition to anyone’s drill collection.

Customer Reviews

This is a must have tool for any trade. You don’t know how many uses there are until you have one. – Sparky

The drill does not live up to DeWalts normal standard. The chuck went bad within 3 months of very limited use. It is more like the cheap DeWalt 3/8″ corded drill. – Farmer of Trees

Much easier to control than a corded driver. Price is right if you already have a charger and battery. – John Fenstermaker

The Black & Decker 18V Cordless Hammer Drill has a 490 in. lbs. professional grade motor to take on the toughest applications. The hammer action allows users to drill into brick, masonry, and concrete. The 1/2" all metal hammer chuck provides greater durability when drilling. Bit changes are quicker and easier with the single sleeve chuck. It has a 32 position position clutch with micro-adjust torque for drilling masonry and driving a wide range of screw sizes. The two position gear box provides high torque driving and control for high speed drilling. Read more...

Pros

If you are looking for a highly affordable hammer drill, then Black & Decker FSX18HD will get your attention. Priced under $50, this drill is an absolute bargain. It has more than enough power to take care of jobs around the house, plus you have the hammer action that can be used for masonry, concrete, and brick.

Despite being so inexpensive, it’s still a well made drill. It can drill into wood and steel without any problems. Also, it’s a good addition to your drill collection if you already own some Black & Decker batteries, as they can be used for any drill in their 18V line. I think most people would be surprised even at the durability of this drill.

Cons

If you are looking for a heavy duty 18V cordless drill for contractor use, then this is not for you. It will not hold up very long under tough conditions daily. The power output is sufficient, but not anything special when compared to other 18V drills. It will overheat quickly when pushed hard.

The price is rather cheap for a cordless drill, so keep in mind that you get what you pay for. I will say though that this drill out performs it’s price. It also doesn’t come with any batteries or charger, so this will be added to the cost if you don’t already own them.

Conclusion

If you need a heavy-duty drill under $50, this is the one for you. It can handle just about any type of work around the house, while giving you something extra with the hammer drill.

Customer Reviews

I had an 18v Firestorm drill from a combo kit. I tried using it to drill into solid concrete walls in a condo. After about 15 minutes of hard work I was only in about a half inch. I then purchased this hammer drill which used the same batteries. Bingo. Took about one minute to drill over one inch with the very same drill bit. Don’t know if I’ll ever purchase a regular drill again since there is always a need to drill into concrete or concrete block. – E. Roman

As the previous reviewer stated, Black and Decker tools are usually said to be low quality. As an employee at a hardware store, I get to test out all kinds of tools. This FSX18HD drill is a high quality tool that is comparable to other high-end 18v tools. I own many of the 18v series by B&D. – Scott

The DeWalt DCD970KL Drill will handle anything from wood, to masonry, steel, and concrete. It has a very efficient motor and versatility that allows users to get fastening and drilling tasks done quickly. It has an all-metal, three speed transmission for job-specific performance and a comfortable grip to keep you going longer. This kit includes a convenient one-hour lithium-ion charger, two 18-volt XRP lithium-ion batteries, a 360-degree side handle, and a sturdy kit box.

Pros

The DeWalt DCD970KL as you can imagine offers a lot of power and torque. A 5 gallon pale of drywall can be mixed using the low speed, a 4″ hole saw can be cut into wood at medium speed, and 3.5″ deck screws can be driven into dry wood at high speed. You can drill into concrete and block with masonry bits without much difficulty. It’s capable of cutting 5′ holes in Blue Board cutters, plywood, stucco, and Hardie board.

It comes with three speeds, which may or may not be your preference. Most cordless drills only have two speeds, but having three makes it more versatile and convenient. The low speed is for precision driving, and the 3 speed is for heavy duty jobs such as concrete and thick lumber. You can easily switch it to the speed that is necessary for the task at hand, which can be a time saver.

While it’s heavier (5.25 pounds) than some of its competitors, it also provides more power for longer stretches and rarely will you even need to use the extra battery. The battery also charges very quickly, and with the extra battery you can continue to work for as long as you want to. The battery life will not disappoint you, and the LED light is always a nice feature to have.

With any DeWalt tool, you can always expect to get durability, and the DeWalt DCD970KL is no different. Whether something falls on it or it’s dropped continuously, it will endure whatever comes its way.

Cons

This drill is heavier and longer than other comparable drills, but also has more power. So if you need something that is compact and lightweight, then this may not be the drill for you. It won’t fit into tight spaces well, but you can use the hammer instead of the driver if you aren’t able to get good leverage.

Conclusion

If you want three speeds, tons of power and torque, reliability, long battery life, and durability, then you can’t go wrong with the DeWalt DCD970KL

Customer Reviews

This is an excellent drill if you need something with ALOT of power and torque. I have only used it a couple of times for rebuilding wooden gates and privacy fences, and I must say, it’s one of the best cordless drills I have ever owned. The Lithium-Ion batteries hold up very well and recharge fairly quickly. This is NOT a lightweight drill, so prepare yourself for the weight (adds to the stability and less fatigue when boring through thick timber). It is well worth every dollar you spend. – Gene Martin

This is a good drill apart from the hammer function. The problem is that when not in hammer position the shaft/chuck can move back and forward with a spring load. Its not ideal when you screw. You loose the control of the tip. Some people may not worry about it, but I do not like that. – M. Sivertsen

I have had several Dewalt Hammerdrills but this one is the best. Lith-ion battery reduced the weight substantially. The upgraded chuck is a great plus, no slippage. – mbiurgie

It only weights 7.55 pounds, and has a length of 10.75 inches. With two XRP Ni-Cad extended run time batteries, the DeWalt DW059K-2 will constantly operate at optimum levels.
The DeWalt DW059K-2 Wrench Kit produces 3600 inch-pounds of torque and gets the job done quickly, whether dealing with tough fastening applications or sticky fasteners.
Pros

You could use the DeWalt DW059K-2 for an entire weekend of work without losing power due to a weak battery. As the case with all DeWalt drills, the battery life is long-lasting and the charge time is very quick. The extra battery adds convenience and value.

This is an excellent tool. It’s high quality and has a lot of power. It can take of lug nuts without any effort. It actually broke a bolt on me when I was tightening a nut.

The power of this drill will just about satisfy anyone looking to remove the even the tightest nuts. It provides quick power that can be used for the toughest of jobs, such as loosening lag bolts and truck lug nuts. Removing wheels can be done win a hurry. One customer noted that he removed 80lb torqued lug nuts even when the battery was getting low.

As with all DeWalt drills, this drill will stand the test of time and withstand a beating on the job site.

Cons

The DeWalt DW059K-2 however is not with it’s flaws. It’s doesn’t have variable speed or an electric brake. The trigger is set up so that pressing the top will remove the bolt, and pressing the bottom will tighten it. Having a forward and reverse switch is more practical.

Also, it’s big and heavy. It can be hard to position sometimes and you won’t be able to fit it into tight spots.

Conclusion

The DeWalt DW059K-2 is recommend if you want to get the toughest jobs done. It provides plenty of power, quick battery charge, and durability.

This impact wrench is larger than most others, and a bit heavier, but with more torque than you’d ever need it’s an easy trade. Even for Dewalt, who make great tools, this wrench is above average for quality. It just feels like it means business. I’ve yet to find something it can’t loosen or tighten (and I’ve been looking – at home and around my mother’s ranch for rusty bolts just to see if it can do the job – it can). – E.

Good tool, quite powerful. I use it a lot when I work on my truck. Well built, rugged and strong. Battery life is great. However it is very noisy (need hearing protection), has no brake, very heavy and is not as powerful as expected. The socket attachement is not practical at all. – Frenchy (San Franciso)

Another job that I had been putting off was changing my rear struts. Some mechanics quoted me upwards of $200 just for the labor, as I had already picked up new parts myself. I had no problems loosening the lug nuts, strut mounting bolts or the strut nut on top. It took it off and tightened it with ease. If you are somewhat mechanically inclined and wouldn’t mind doing the bigger projects, you’ll save yourself a lot of money and time. The only con I have experienced so far as others have mentioned is that this particular model does not have variable speed. – Shannon Kobashigawa

The DeWalt DCD775KL 18-volt cordless hammer drill has compact, lightweight design and a dual speed range. This powerful, user-friendly tool can be used for a variety of professional jobs. Powered by long-lasting lithium-ion batteries, the hammer drill will deliver reliable operation with minimal downtime. It has 17 clutch settings and an LED work light for improved visibility in tight spaces or low-light conditions. Weighing in at just 4.1 pounds, the DCD775KL lets you work all day without putting excessive strain on wrists and hands, which helps with productivity. Its compact size also makes it easy for you to drill in tight spaces like under sinks, and in corners, or a closet.

Pros

The LED light is a feature that tends to get overlooked by customers, but is really convenient when you need just a little more visibility and don’t have a flashlight near.

The lithium battery is one of the better features of the DCD775KL. It doesn’t lose charge while idle and lasts for 3-4 hours at a time under normal use. There is no lag and the drill doesn’t lose any power as the battery is wearing down. It will also shut off completely before the battery is completely drained to help preserve its long term life. The charge time is very efficient at about 30 minutes or so.

It also comes with two batteries so you can charge one while using the other.

At 4.1 pounds, this drill is very compact, which reduces fatigue when working long hours and allows users to fit it into tight spaces while still getting a good angle. Even if your hands aren’t the largest, you will still be able to handle the drill very well.

Switching gears with the 2-speed transmission is very smooth and easy. While the DeWalt DCD970 has three speeds and the top gear is faster, changing gears isn’t as efficient and sometimes takes some trial and error to get it right. Two gears makes this process much easier.

For such a compact hammer drill, it’s very effective with solid concrete, concrete blocks, and brick.

Cons

A bit holder would have been nice. Also, the drill bit does loosen and fall out on rare occasions.

Conclusion

If you want a compact, lightweight, powerful drill, then you won’t be disappointed with the DeWalt DCD970. It has all the torque that you will need to do most jobs.

Customer Reviews

This product performs better than expected. It is light and powerful. The best part is the Li-ion batteries charge in 30 minutes. In less than 2 weeks I used this for hundreds of pilot holes, wood screws and even as a portable auger for planting. Similar to other complaints, I did find a couple of times where the bit loosened and fell out of the chuck. – Marc Schmidt (Cincinnati, OH)

The weight, power, and performance of the tool are better than expected! The tool fits my average sized hand better than the large professional models and it has sufficient torque for anything I’ve used it for. The feel and finish of the tool are as good as anything on the market. Also, the lithium battery holds a really long charge. – Gary McDermott (Waldorf, MD)

When I drilled the wall studs to accept the lag bolts I was amazed at how easily this drill bored a hole using the hammer drill, it was like drilling butter for this drill. The battery retains is current charge between use on different jobs and I have not had to charge it yet. The light on the drill was actually useful as it allowed me to see the surface of what I was driling. – S. Tarrant

The Makita 18V Cordless Driver-Drill delivers versatility and longer run time to the jobsite. Every Makita Lithium-Ion tool is backed by Makita’s 3-Year Warranty.

The BHP452Z can be used for a variety of applications where hammer-drilling is needed, such as fastening anchors, drilling into masonry, and setting anchors into concrete. It can be used for wood drilling and driving, and applied in other areas such as plumbing, woodworking, HVAC, and electrical.

Pros

Versatile

Compact

Lightweight

Durable

Fast Charging

Price

As you can see, there are many benefits that come with the Makita BHP452Z. It’s light, compact, and is powerful for it’s size. The batteries charge very quickly, and it’s a tool that is built to last as most Makita tools are. The price is incredibly low (<a href="http://18vcordlessdrillreviews.com/view/BHP452Z.php" target="_new">currently $71 at Amazon).

One of the biggest strengths of the Makita BHP452Z is it’s ergonomic design. It has a very comfortable grip and balance, as you can work for hours at a time without feeling fatigue. The belt hook is a nice feature to have as well. The 1/2 chuck is useful for larger bits, as opposed to the 3/8 chuck that other cordless drills have.

Being able to drill, screw, or using the impact drill is a great feature. You can quickly switch from drilling to driving, and the torque automatically adjusts.

Cons

Two Gears

Some users like to have three gears, and the older version of this model did have three. Makita cut it down to two, which does make the drill a bit lighter and more compact. But a 3-speed gearbox is better for performance overall. Some people also have experienced a short life with their lithium-ion batteries. Part of this is because users probably aren’t allowing the battery to cool down for an hour after the charge is complete, as stated in the Makita manual.

Customer Reviews

I have used it for less than a week. It is a nice companion (smaller and lighter) to my BDF-451 driver. It drove 40 3″ ceramic screws in 2x lumber one morning and never bogged once. Hole saws, spade bits, drywall screws in metal or wood….were not a problem. This size and weight put it into the “compact” class, so don’t expect it to do everything a larger 18v drill will do. But i would put it up against my larger Makita for 80% of my daily needs. – JG (Olney, MD)

The original chuck started to slip and grind away almost immediately. The new one feel much more secure and durable. – Gregory A. Barnicoat

Powerful

LED Light

Durable

Versatile

3 Speed

You probably won’t be disappointed with the 450 unit watts it produces that makes it goo for metal, wood, and masonry. The chuck is unlocks and locks easily and has a very tight grip. The three speeds are ideal for adjusting based on the task at hand. The LED light can come in handy.

If you are a professional, then this is the type of drill you are looking for. It’s performance is second to none among 18V drills.

Cons

Heavy

Battery Not Included

The weight without a battery is just under 4 pounds, but with it is at least over five. Handling a five pound drill can cause fatigue, but this is somewhat expected considering the metal gears and the power this drill has. There are other 18V hammerdrills that are a bit lighter however.

Also, no batteries are included with the drill, so they will have to be purchased separately. If you already own a DeWalt drill, then you can use those.

I bought this as a replacement for the previous model. Works just as it should! The only thing that detracts from this model is overall weight. – Forrest Allen

This unit (the DCD950B) combines the best of the old and the new (LED light, metal tranny, and a pack adapter that works for either pack) – with 18V being so common it would make anyone happy – those using it for light jobs around the house may consider the li-ion pack while those using it to cut big holes with one plunge may want the extra current available from the xrp nicad packs. Either way its a winner and came with my multi-tool system – it was the reason I picked that system in fact because it had all the right stuff on it.

The one downside is the fact that it only has two speeds. More variable speed would be useful. The only other issue is that with Lithium batteries, there is no warning when they are dying. The NiCad batteries will slow down, but the Lithium batteries will just stop completely.

Customer Reviews

Used this drill (after the 30 minute charging) for 5 hours, with only one change of batteries. Building a shed and this drill worked it’s torque on those screws like no other drill I have ever owned. Fantastically happy with this purchase. I really don’t think you can find stock that this drill/driver won’t navigate. Now, it may fall apart tomorrow, but I don’t think I have ever had such a positive reaction from a new purchase. Bravo, Dewalt – your quality and performance continues. – Richard Heckmann

I have everything that Dewalt makes and I have to say this drill is weak. It is fine for someone that does not work with hard woods, ok for your little projects. But for wood working and trying to put some muscle into the draw; it is not the tool. the bigger 18 are better for what I do, for a small light weight tool it is great, but for working the way we do in building our own furniture it is lacking. – K Aultman

Our family uses a lot of cordless tools. This one is excellent. Everything Dewalt makes is very good. The 18v power is as good as it gets for home use. Also, you have an extra battery. Lastly, the 1/2″ chuck will handle all size bits. if you’re looking for a good cordless drill, you won’t go wrong with this one. – Jan Mitchel

The Black & Decker HPD18AK-2 can be used to:

Drill holes in plastic, metal, and wood

Drive screws to tighten many different materials

Drill holes the size of a pilot to auger and large spade bits

Drive big lag bolts into 2x and 4x material with the high torque setting, which is ideal for building decks

Drive 400 2″ screws into wood with high speed setting all on a single charge

Package

Included with with the Black & Decker HPD18AK-2 are two 18V batteries, a cup charger, kit box, 2 double ended bit tips, and a 10-piece drill set.

Pros

Accessories

Battery Charge

Two Batteries

Durable

Value

Black & Decker tools have a good reputation for being durable and made well, and the Black & Decker HPD18AK-2 is no different. The battery charge is excellent, as you could conceivably put together a deck only going through a couple charges. One customer noted:

I built my entire deck with this drill on two charges. I don’t own this drill, but I used my friend’s to build a huge outdoor wooden playsets. It took three days to build, and did it all on one charge. – Simple Jack Bohica

The torque is impressive and is more than capable of completing just about every job around the house. One of the unique features of the HPD18AK-2 is the ability to adjust the torque for setting screws. The additional battery is an added bonus so you can keep working while the other is charging. This comes in handy when working on larger projects. The variable speed feature is also very effective. The 10 additional drill bits will be of use for most people as well and adds some value to this purchase.

Cons

No LED Light

An LED light would be convenient for increased visibility, but not a deal breaker. Otherwise, there are not many complaints about this drill. There is nothing extraordinary about it, but it’s reliable and has good power.

This however is not the type of drill that you would use for tough applications, such as masonry. Nor would you use it for professional jobs on a consistent basis. But for what it is, which is a more powerful drill to be used for workout at home, it’s an effective drill and one that you should be satisfied with.

Wow, what a great value from Amazon. I built my entire deck with this drill on two charges. It has all the power I need around the house. I looked at several other makes at more than twice the price before I bought this unit. I’m very happy I went with this one. The chucking system works very well too. I have no complaints with this fine product from Black & Decker. Shipping was very fast too. – Richard A. Ott (Milwaukie, OR)

Pros

Value

Brand

Handling

Compact

Charge Time

Accessories

The primary benefit of buying this drill is the value you’re getting. For just under $60 (Amazon) you are getting not just a drill, but 20 accessories (screwdriver and drill bits). This will save you some money and time. The extra drill bits really do come in handy. The 18V will be more than enough to do most jobs around the house. It also holds a charge for quite some time. The compact design also makes it easier to handle. You know with Black & Decker that you are getting quality.

This drill is a good choice if you are looking to do odd jobs around the house and some amateur projects. For the money, you probably won’t find a better cordless drill.

Cons

No Charge Level Indicator

Heavy

For a compact drill, it’s a bit heavier than you would expect especially if you use for a good period of time. Also, lacking is a charge indicator to let you know that it’s charging and that’s done charging. Your best bet is just to plug it in the night before you use it. Also, another complaint is that the battery has to be charged while in the drill. So you won’t be able to charge another battery while working on a project.

Customer Reviews

This does plenty of work around the house. The 18V motor has all the torque I need for most jobs. And, as an added convenience, the batteries are interchangeable with batteries in other B&D tool suite, like their lawn trimmer. I haven’t needed the extra batteries and charger yet, but I’m sure some job will come up where they’re more than handy. My only complaint, a minor one, is that the charger doesn’t let you know when the battery is full. I know the extra indicator would have added a little to the cost, but would have been a big improvement.

It doesn’t provide too much torgue for basic home drilling needs; somewhat disappointed with this drill’s power. The carrying bag is nice. – David G. Kerr

I was really surprised at how much power this little drill has. Absolutely worth the money. Holds a charge well, easy to handle, an all around good tool to have. – D. Gurley
