Pros
- LED Light
- Handling
- Durable
- Powerful
- Compact Size
- Extra Battery
What stands out about the DeWalt DC729KA is the compact size and power. It can handle a wide range of applications, as it’s capable of producing 410 unit watts out. You could drive a 3 1/2 inch screw into a 2×4 with relative ease. It makes clean holes with the variety of drill bits you can use. This has try variable speed, and the all metal transmission is one of the best. The LED light really comes in handy when using in dark spots.
It’s very durable. You can drop it many times without any damage done. The extra battery helps while charging the other. The charge time is under and hour, which is fairly fast for a cordless drill. This drill does exactly what it says it does. The three year warranty is also very impressive.
Cons
- Battery Life
The battery life does not last that long. This is not as huge of a deal as it could be since the kit comes with an extra battery, but if you are planning on working all day away from a power source to recharge it may be a problem.
There isn’t much to complain about when it comes to the DeWalt DC729KA 18 Volt Cordless Drill. But one area that could be better is the battery life. If used extensively, the battery will probably last only a few months. While in operation the batteries work fine, but the life of the battery itself isn’t long.

Customer Reviews
While I’m not a tradesman, I do a lot of DIY projects and the old cordless was dying, so I bought this unit. It came with two batteries, which meant I didn’t have to buy the second right away. It’s more versatile than the old one, especially because it’s a ½-inch drill, so I can use the larger bits I couldn’t on the old unit. The other advantage with this drill is the size: I can get at things in tighter quarters (like in shelf spaces) to drill and drive screws. Just couldn’t do that with the bigger or corded drills. – G. My husband has been in the construction industry for 30+ years and was thrilled with this new drill. Light weight, lots of power, and even a light to make zeroing in on small areas so much easier. – Tammy Walls
The battery needs to be more powerful for serious work but it is okay for hanging pictures or some real short jobs before having to recharge it again. Also when you tighten the drill bits you hear an audible clip when it’s secure. If you want to do light work around the house, get a cheaper brand. If you want a heavy duty sturdy cordless drill – you will be disappointed. I was surprised to buy this dewalt drill only to find out that it’s weak, with poor battery life and rather expensive for what it can do. From the very few runs with it, the drill pilot started getting worn out. What I did like about it was that it was light and easy to handle. – L. Jackson
